PLAINVILLE – Getting that first victory in scholastic football season is always very sweet.
It shows a payoff for all the offseason work the players have put into the program.
However, after defeating East Catholic last week, the Plainville football team is hungry for more success.
In its way this week is a tough squad from Rocky Hill and the Terriers will certainly be stiff competition for the Blue Devils.
Here’s what to look for this week as Plainville tangles with Rocky Hill:
Plainville (1-3) vs Rocky Hill (3-1)
Location: Alumni Field, Plainville
Day and Time: Friday, 7:00 p.m.
Last Year: Last season, the Blue Devils dropped a heartbreaking 21-20 decision to Rocky Hill.
All-Time Series: The Terriers lead the all-time series 7-1.
Last week: Plainville smashed East Catholic 28-8 while Rocky Hill defeated pesky Platt 48-8.
Casual facts…Plainville hasn’t had any lucky with Rocky Hill over the years and it doesn’t help matters that the Terriers are off to a very good start in 2012… “Coach Coyne does a good job over there,” said Plainville coach Chris Farrell. “Rocky Hill does an excellent job, has a very similar offense, we just need to make sure we come back to work (this week).”…Rocky Hill has been tremendous this season and after its 40-point dismantling of Platt, the Terriers are looking to keep its playoff aspirations in high gear…Hill has a ton of weapons at its disposal and it starts with its running component of Alex DeNardo and Chris Young. They’re talented backs and Plainville must be wary of the duo. They rushed for over 300 yards on just 29 carries…In the air, QB Troy Sime can chuck the ball a bit and his favorite target was Tom Seaver (three touchdown receptions, 74 yards) against Platt…The Terriers stuffed Platt for only eight points last week as the squad handled back Justin Potts with zest…Plainville has the defense to contend with Rocky Hill. But the Blue Devils will certainly have to cover any and all bases in order to win this one…But the Terriers will also have to contend with Plainville’s outstanding offensive line. That line led to Joey Quintero rushing for over 200 yards against East Catholic…Now back to its winning ways, it’s time for Plainville to pick off Rocky Hill for victory number two.
And the winner is…In a reversal from last season, Plainville picks up a 21-20 victory.
