The Plainville Chamber of Commerce is bringing back its “Pizza Feud” event for a third year on Tuesday, March 5. The annual event, held at Nuchie’s Restaurant in Bristol, was popular from the start and has grown since.
“Last year we had over 250 people and so far, most of the restaurants are coming back,” said Dee Babkirk-Rodriques, membership and events coordinator for the Chamber. “They loved it.”
As of press time, the participating restaurants include Vero Pizza, West Main Pizza and D’Amico’s Restaurant, which won the Judge’s prize for Best Overall Pizza last year. Owner Laura D’Amico said preparing for the Pizza Feud was a demanding process, but the opportunity was worth it.
“There are a lot of people who don’t know we’re here because we’re a little off the beaten path,” she said. “It’s a way for people to try our pizza and learn where we are.”
Although there are judges, the participants also get to vote on their favorite. The restaurants also compete for Best Cheese and Best Specialty Pizza. More of Plainville’s numerous pizza restaurants are expected to add their names to the roster before the competition begins.
The event also features entertainment from the DJ BB Pro and a visit from Rocky, the mascot for the New Britain Rock Cats.
“People enjoy it and they always ask when it’s coming back,” said Babkirk-Rodriques. “You pay $10 to get in and you get more pizza than you could ever eat.”
Nuchie’s is located on 164 Central Street in the Forestville section of Bristol. Admission is $10 and the event begins at 5:45 pm on Tuesday, March 5.
