The Board of Education and town’s general government budgets are expected to be presented to the Plainville Town Council on Monday, March 4, in council chambers at the Municipal Center, starting at 7:30 p.m. There is a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 7, where the public can make comments on either budget proposals before the council and Board of Education enter into workshops during the following three weeks. Another public hearing is expected to be scheduled during the second week of April.
Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Kitching originally proposed an increase of 2.39 percent, or $791,744, on this year’s budget. The Board of Education held workshops, and Kitching discovered a savings of this year’s current budget of $340,000. After the workshops, and additional reductions totaling $125,310, the board approved an operating budget request of $33,393,538, or an increase of 0.9 percent or $326,434.
