A charming novel from the New York Times Best Sellers list will be the next topic of the Friends of the Plainville Public Library book discussion group. â€śMajor Pettigrewâ€™s Last Standâ€ť by first time novelist, Helen Simonson, is about Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), who leads a quiet life in the village of St. Mary, England, until his brotherâ€™s death sparks an unexpected friendship with Mrs. Jasmina Ali, the Pakistani shopkeeper from the village. But will their relationship survive in a society that considers Ali a foreigner?
The program will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the library, 56 East Main St., Plainville. It is free, extra copies of the book are available at the library and new members to the group are always welcomed.
