Rybczyk tournament doesn’t scrimp on talent

PLAINVILLE – This year’s Rybczyk Memorial Basketball Tournament, taking place on Dec. 27 to 28 from Plainville High School, should once again highlight some of the best local scholastic squads.
This year’s boys slate includes Bristol Central, Cromwell, Terryville and home-standing Plainville.
And, to the Blue Devils’ credit, the squad won’t be ducking any challengers at the event.
Bristol Central carries four players who are 6-foot-4 or taller and are extremely athletic.
They’ll be a handful for any team at the competition and the squad’s head coach, Tim Barrette, won’t back down from anyone.
And then you have Terryville, a member of the Berkshire League and a contingent that is looking to make a name for itself at this tournament.
Head coach Mark Fowler is a veteran hand who knows how to get the job done.
If you have to battle the Roos’, you better be ready to take on a squad that is certainly fundamentally sound.
And expect penetration in the paint with kick-outs for three-point bombs.
Cromwell is a member of the ECC and for a small school, it always has a solid hoops program.
Last season, the team went 16-8 and returns a boatload of seniors into the mix.
In 2012-13, Jake Regula averaged 14 points-per-game and expect the senior to be scoring a bunch while Jauchswann Green posted eight per night.
Once again, Plainville didn’t duck any challengers and it’s a credit to the program that it brought some amazing teams into the fold.
On the girls side of things, Pomperaug, Sacred Heart Academy, Trinity Catholic and Plainville will all go to battle during the two-day event.
