The all-day budget vote will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at the Plainville Firehouse, 77 West Main St. Voters will cast their ballots on two questions, one for the general government budget and one for the Board of Education budget. The Town Council is requesting a general government budget of $21,808,178, an increase of 2.62 percent over this year’s allocated budget. The Council also recently approved a Board of Education budget of $33,616,799, a 0.67 percent increase over its current allocation, and one of the smallest increases in the last 25 years, which residents will vote on.
If the budget passes as is, the mill rate is expected to increase by 0.16 percent to 31.54. The mill rate is equal to $1 of tax for each $1,000 of assessment. If a property in Plainville had an assessed value of $50,000 and if this mill rate passed, that property owner would pay $1,577 in property taxes.
The polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the firehouse.
