Here comes the 3rd installment of Wings and Wheels

Last year the second annual Wings and Wheels event raised $24,000 for two of Plainville’s charitable organizations, and there is a hope that this year can bring in even more funds.
The third annual Wings and Wheels car show and fly-in event will be held on Saturday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Scott Saunders, one of the co-founders of the event, said a few things changed this year, like the day it was scheduled and the time extension.
“It’s a really great community event with a lot of participation from all areas of town,” said Saunders. Groups such as the Plainville Fire Company, Interstate Aviation, Bristol Auto Club, and about 100 volunteers help put the event on, Saunders said.
When the initial planning process began over three years ago for Wings and Wheels, the event was just going to be a car show; but it ultimately turned into planning a car and aircraft show.
Every year, the Wings and Wheels event benefits the Plainville Community Food Pantry and also the Petit Family Foundation. Both organizations receive an even split of the funds raised.
The Wings and Wheels event brings in classic cars and vintage airplanes and offers fly-ins, plane and helicopter rides, live music and food and other activities for the whole family. There will be aviation and car exhibits, local vendors, and more. Last year, there were about 400 classic cars on display, and the entire event draws thousands of guests and spectators. The car show will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. and the registration fee is $10 and gates will open at noon for car placement.
“The whole event brings a lot of people together to raise money for two very important organizations in our town,” Saunders added.
The third annual event will take place on June 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Robertson Airport, 62 Johnson Ave. General admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages five-11. There is free on-site at the airport and off-site parking with a complimentary shuttle bus service at Toffolon School and the Middle School of Plainville, both located on Northwest Drive. Alcohol and pets are prohibited.
