WEST HARTFORD – Eventually, the Plainville American Legion team is going to reverse its fortunes in Zone 7 play.
But against a very good West Hartford team on Friday, June 20, Post 33 dropped another tough one.
Plainville hung around with the West Hartford team for a while but in the end, Post 33 fell by a 6-1 final from the baseball field at Hall High School.
The loss dropped Plainville to 2-8 on the campaign while West Hartford moved to 2-0 in Zone 7 play.
The visitors fell behind 3-0 in the contest but off a third inning RBI tally by Tyler Favreau (1-for-3), Plainville was trailing just 3-1.
But West Hartford added a run to the scoreboard in the bottom of the third and padded its edge with two more in the fifth to make it a 6-1 game after five completed frames.
That deficit proved to be a little too deep for Post 33 to dig out of.
Buzz Adams threw four innings for Plainville, allowing just six hits while striking out three along the way.
He gave up for earned runs during his stint while the tandem of Mike Wiszniak and Favreau threw a combined two innings of one-hit, shutout ball out of the Plainville bullpen.
At the plate, Sam Lindgren showed his usual grit and in the second spot in the order, he made his way onto base three times.
Lindgren went 1-for-2 at the plate, scoring a run, while getting hit by a pitch twice in the fray.
Rob Pezzulo, Tyler Pina and Bubba Milo all tallied hits for the Plainville outfit.
NOTES…Plainville and West Hartford played its third and final game of the series on Saturday, June 21as Post 33 dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision from Alumni Field in Plainville.
Plainville out-hit West Hartford 9-3, but three errors didn’t help out matters any for the home team.
Post 33 surged out of the gate with a 2-0 push after one frame of play.
West Hartford notched the score at 2-2 halfway through the third but by the bottom of the frame, Plainville scored again to make it a 3-2 contest, regaining the edge.
The visitors scored one in the fourth to tie it up again and West Hartford went ahead for good in the sixth with another run for a 4-3 push.
And then on Sunday, June 22, Plainville won a huge doubleheader in Newington.
Post 33 dropped Newington by finals of 5-4 and 3-2 as Rob Pezzulo and Brian Dostaler pitched Plainville to the wins.
The squad is now 2-3 in Zone 7 play and 4-9 overall.
