Petit endorsed by Republicans to run again in 22nd

Plainville and New Britain area Republicans last Wednesday evening unanimously endorsed Dr. William A. Petit, Jr. as their candidate for the 22th District House Seat.

“It continues to be an honor serving as your state representative,”  Petit said to residents during the party convention held at the Plainville Town Hall, reported a Republican press release. “I want to help Connecticut’s economy thrive again and build a future that all of us can afford.”

The 22nd district includes all of Plainville and the west end of New Britain, an area that has seen Petit hold various Legislative AM Coffee hours and evening Pizza with Politics discussions to keep voters informed, reported the press release.

During his service in Hartford, Petit, 61, has received accolades from constituents who appreciated his diligent effort at community outreach, including local public forums where he briefed residents about a wide range of legislative issues.

During his first two legislative sessions, the release reported, Petit joined his Republican colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to keeping focus on the state budget, cutting spending, privatizing services where possible and maintaining necessary services as an alternative and in contrast to the persistent revenue-raising concepts floated by the governor, OPM and the majority. “We continue to have a greater spending problem than revenue problem and are hampered by long-term health care and pension debt that must be addressed,” the press release quoted Petit.

Petit considers his legislative service as “among the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said the news release, which also reported he thanked constituents for their questions and comments. He told family and friends their support has been and remains critical to his work in Hartford. If re-elected, the release reported, Petit especially hopes to continue his committee work on the Appropriations, Public Health and Commerce committees as well as contributing to the Fire and EMS, Tourism, Manufacturing and Biotechnology caucuses.

Petit is married to Christine and has a 4 year-old son, William III. He continues to serve as a president of the Petit Family Foundation, chairman of the Hayley’s Hope and Michaela’s Miracle MS Memorial Fund, Board member of the Plainville Sports Hall of Fame Committee and is a new member of the Elizabeth Norton Trust Fund.
