There was a fatal car accident on Route 72 on Monday evening, July 16.
In a report from State Police Troop H, the vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 72 “in the right lane in the area of exit 1 in the town of Plainville. For an unknown reason” the vehicle “traveled off of the right side of the roadway, where it struck the metal beam guardrail”and a Department of Transportation light pole, “before traveling down an embankment where it came to rest.”
According to the report, the driver, Carl Nauss, 35, of New Britain, “was transported via ambulance to Hartford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased due to the injuries he sustained as a result of the accident.”
As of Wednesday, July 18, the accident was still an open investigation, and details could not be released, said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant with the Connecticut Public Information Office.
