Plainville Council has voted to enter a year-long shared services agreement with the City of Bristol.
The agreement was first mentioned in the May 7 Town Council meeting when Town Manager, Robert Lee announced that Plainville building inspector, Foster Zucchi will begin his transition into semi-retirement. Zucchi has been with Plainville approximately eight years.
“I inquired with some of the towns around us to ask them if they would be interested in providing some building inspection services for Plainville on a part time basis.,” said Lee. “The City of Bristol responded through the mayor’s office, and she [Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu] indicated that they might be able to work something out with us.”
After estimating how many hours the Bristol building department, run by Guy Morin, would be needed, Lee said Plainville will have an estimated savings “in the area of $30,000 to $35,000.”
According to a press release from the Town of Plainville, the agreement goes into effect in August. “A Plainville building official will be available on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for: personal consultations, plan review, issuance of building permits, certificate of occupancies, and certificate of completions along with other building department functions as needed.” The Bristol building department will perform inspections in Plainville “on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be no inspections performed on Fridays.”
“I think that this arrangement with Bristol is something that has a good possibility of being a benefit to both communities,” said Lee. “I do appreciate the mayor’s willingness to work with us, as well as Guy Morin… I think we have a good relationship with them, and maybe this will blossom into other possible shared services. She [Zoppo-Sassu] seems very receptive to anything we might need.”
The release also encourages citizens to continue to contact the Plainville building department to schedule inspections by calling (860)793-0221 ext. 212. Residents who have questions regarding the joint agreement may contact the Town Manager Robert Lee at (860)793-0221 ext. 201.
