Sport Week in Review for Oct. 12



Plainville football built a 24-0 halftime lead on Oct. 6 on the road at RHAM, then watched the host Sachems score 32 unanswered points in a tough 32-24 loss.

RHAM stayed undefeated (5-0) with the victory. For Plainville, Frank Griffin had touchdown runs of one and eight yards while Christian Collin returned a fumble for the other Blue Devil touchdown. Mason Sarra made a 37-yard field goal and converted all three of his extra points.

The record: 2-3

Up next: Plainville has a bye week before returning to the field on Oct. 19 to play Northwest Catholic at 6:30 p.m. at Tinty Field.


The Plainville girls split their double dual meet against Maloney and Middletown on Oct. 2 at Veterans Memorial Park in Middletown.

The Lady Devils edged out Maloney 26-27 and lost 17-49 to Middletown.

Plainville’s boys lost 27-34 to Maloney and 18-42 to Middletown.

The boys and the girls both competed in the 35th Wickham Invitational on Oct. 6 at Wickham Park in Manchester. Cole McNamara had the best varsity finish of the day, taking 21st place in the boys unseeded race. Connor McNamara finished 23rd in the same race. Emma Lopez was the top varsity finisher on the girls side, and that also came in the unseeded race.

Plainville lost 2-0 to Hall at home on Oct. 2, but rebounded for an 8-0 blowout home win over Platt on Oct. 5.

Patrick Gryczewski scored two goals to lead the Blue Devil onslaught against Platt. Twins Tanner and Tucker Rau each a goal, as did Dane Stevens, James Raucci, Tyler Miller, and Joseph Page.

The record: 5-4 (4-1 CCC South Region)

Up next: Plainville was scheduled to host Glastonbury on Tuesday. The Blue Devils travel to Wethersfield on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.


Plainville tied Windsor 1-1 on Oct. 3, then defeated Platt 4-3 on Oct. 5. Both games were on the road.

Courtney Ouellette had the Lady Devil goal in the tie against Windsor, and Caitlin Barker made six saves. Plainville found itself in a CCC South Region battle until the end against Platt in Meriden, but was able to come away with the victory.

The record: 4-3-2 (3-1-1 CCC South Region)

Up next: Plainville was scheduled to play at Hall on Tuesday. The Lady Devils are home against Rocky Hill on Friday at 3:45 p.m.


Plainville started the CCC South Division portion of its season with victories over Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central.

The Lady Devils beat the Lancers at home on Oct. 2, then defeated the Rams on Oct. 5 at the Malone Center in Bristol.
