Plainville girls volleyball picked up its second win of the season on Oct. 12 when it defeated Middletown 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 25-16, 20-25, 19-17) on the road. The Lady Devils improved to 2-13 with the victory.
“Wiktoria Galazyn and Katie Tanguay hit well, Tori Corriveau set up a lot of the hits,” coach Bob Moffo said. “The team played well and worked hard for this win. Sam Lozefski ignited the defense with some awesome digs.”
Plainville faced Platt at home on Oct. 9 and lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18), though the team played well according to Moffo. The Lady Devils had another home match against Rocky Hill on Oct. 10 and fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-15) in that contest.
The record: 2-13
Up next: Plainville was scheduled to play its final away match of the season on Monday against East Hartford. The Lady Devils began a four-match homestand against Avon on Tuesday, then faced off against Bristol Eastern on Thursday.
GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING
Plainville won its third straight meet on Oct. 12 when it knocked off the Meriden Co-op of Maloney and Platt 92-82 at Maloney High School.
The Lady Devil win streak started with a 101-85 win over Bristol Eastern on Oct. 2 and continued with a 96-87 triumph over Bristol Central on Oct. 5. The Meriden meet was the lone contest last week for Plainville.
The Lady Devils have received key contributions from seniors Lydia Weinberg and Morgan Rogers; juniors Jill Arens, Phoebe Gediman and Alyssa Macomber; sophomores Isabella Samperi and Ashleigh Bantz; and freshman Julia Smith.
Looking ahead, the CCC South Division title will likely be on the line on Oct. 23 when Plainville hosts Middletown at 4 p.m. at Plainville High School.
The record: 5-3 (3-0 CCC South Division)
Up next: Plainville was scheduled to host Berlin on Thursday in its lone meet of the week.
Plainville lost at Hall on Oct. 9, then salvaged a point with a tie against Rocky Hill on Oct. 12 at home.
The Lady Devils were defeated 4-1 by Hall. Skylar Ibitz scored the goal while Caitlin Barker and Maddie Rund combined for nine saves.
Krystyna Miller scored the Plainville goal in the tie against Rocky Hill at Tinty Field. Barker tallied 11 saves for the Lady Devils.
Plainville was scheduled to compete in the CCC Championships on Tuesday.
“I have high expectations for some individuals going into the CCC Championships,” coach Shaun Berard said. “They are peaking at the right time.”
Plainville returns to the field after a bye week to host NW Catholic (2-3) on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Blue Devils (2-3) are looking to get back to .500 after a tough loss at RHAM on Oct. 6.
