Sport Week in Review for Oct. 26

Plainville girls soccer picked up a win, a loss and a tie this past week to run its record to 5-5-4 on the season. All of the games were contested at Tinty Field.

The Lady Devils are 4-1-1 in the CCC South Region, which puts them ahead of both Bristol Eastern (3-1-2) and Bristol Central (1-3-1) in the Patriot Division. Plainville is in good position to claim the division title, but still needs to play Eastern and Central in the final two games of the regular season.

The Lady Devils started their week with a 3-1 CCC South Region crossover win over Middletown on Oct. 15. Krystyna Miller scored two goals and Delaney Beausoleil tallied the other goal. Maddie Rund and Caitlin Barker combined for eight saves for Plainville, which qualified for the state tournament with the win.

On Oct. 17, Plainville played to a 0-0 tie against Avon. Barker had a great game with 14 saves to preserve the point for the Lady Devils.

Barker picked up 15 more saves on Oct. 18 against South Windsor, but the visiting Bobcats scored the game’s only goal and won 1-0.

The record: 5-5-4 (4-1-1 region)

Up next: Plainville closes its regular season with games against the Bristol schools. First up was Eastern on the road on Tuesday. The Lady Devils host Central on Friday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING

Plainville suffered a tough 96-88 loss against Berlin on Oct. 18 at Plainville High School.

The Lady Devils are still in contention for the CCC South Division title, and they had a big meet against Middletown on Tuesday at home that would decide the winner.

In the Berlin meet, Morgan Rogers, Lydia Weinberg and Bell Samperi all swam well and picked up individual wins for Plainville.

The record: 5-4 overall (3-0 division)

Up next: The Lady Devils hosted Middletown on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

Plainville started the week with a win, but lost two straight to end it. All of the games were on the road.

The Blue Devils defeated Middletown 1-0 on Oct. 15 on a goal from Logan Miller. The goal was assisted by Dane Stephens.

Plainville made the long trek out to E.O. Smith on Oct. 18 and came home with a 1-0 loss. Brennan Staubley made four saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Plainville faced Tolland on Oct. 20 and lost 3-0 to a tough Eagles squad. Sergio Zaldivar made seven saves for the Blue Devils.

Plainville is 5-1 in the CCC South Region, which puts it ahead of Bristol Central (3-1-1) and Bristol Eastern (3-1-2) in terms of the Patriot Division. The Blue Devils close the regular season with games against the Rams and Lancers and can wrap up the division title.

The record: 6-7-1 (5-1-0 region)

Up next: Plainville hosted Bristol Eastern on Tuesday. The Blue Devils play at Bristol Central on Friday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Plainville lost 3-0 to East Hartford, Avon and Bristol Eastern this past week. The Lady Devils were home against Avon and Eastern, and they will also be home for their final two matches of the season.

The record: 2-16

Up next: Plainville hosted Kennedy on Thursday. The Lady Devils end their season on Friday at home against Bristol Central at 5:30 p.m.
