Sport Week in Review for Nov. 9

The Plainville boys and girls soccer teams will compete in the state tournament this week. The Lady Devils wrapped up their season with a 0-0 tie at Bristol Eastern on Oct. 31.

For Plainville girls swimming and diving, Class S state diving was Thursday at Bulkeley High School in Hartford. The Class S swim trials are on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Cheshire High School. The Lady Devils competed in the CCC South divisional meet on Nov. 2.

Here’s more about the state tournament schedule for Plainville’s teams:

Boys soccer

The Blue Devils are the No. 23 seed in Class M and were scheduled for a Tuesday road game against No. 10 Montville. The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 7 Bullard Havens and No. 26 Northwestern Regional on Friday at 2 p.m. at the site of the higher seed. The quarterfinal round game would be Saturday at the site of the higher seed.

Plainville finished the regular season with a record of 8-7-1, but it was 7-1 in the CCC South Region and won the Patriot Division title. The Blue Devils had the best CCC South Region record out of seven teams.

Girls soccer

The Lady Devils are also a No. 23 seed in Class M and were scheduled for a Monday evening road game against No. 10 Weston. The winner of that game was slated to play the winner of No. 7 Wolcott and No. 26 Valley Regional on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the site of the higher seed. The quarterfinal round game would be Friday at the site of the higher seed.

Plainville ended the regular season with a record of 5-6-5, but it fared better in the CCC South Region with a mark of 4-2-2. The Lady Devils were the runner-up to Bristol Eastern (4-1-3 region) in the Patriot Division.

Girls swimming and diving

Plainville began its postseason with the CCC South Division meet on Nov. 2. Next up are the state meets, and those began with Class S state diving on Thursday. After the Class S swim trials on Saturday, the Lady Devils head to Wesleyan University in Middletown for the Class S meet, which begins at 7 p.m.
