Plainville girls basketball started last week on the wrong end of a tough 59-56 home loss to Bristol Eastern on Jan. 7. The Lady Devils were able to bounce back with a 50-33 road win over Tolland on Jan. 11. The win over Tolland clinched a state tournament berth for Plainville (8-3).
Caitlin Barker led the Devils with 23 points in the loss against the Lancers. Jaida Vazquez tallied 19 points while Sam Lozefski added 13 points. Plainville held a three-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored 20-14 by Eastern. Jordan Ouellette paced the Lancers with 18 points.
Plainville bounced back with a convincing win over Tolland on Jan. 11. The Devils looked to keep the momentum going this week with three games on the slate. Plainville was at South Windsor on Tuesday and hosted East Hartford on Wednesday. The Devils travel to Northwest Catholic on Saturday for a noon start.
Plainville went 2-3 in dual meets last week and has a 10-8 overall record for the season. The Devils lost 50-21 to Bristol Central on Jan. 9 at Bristol Central, then went 2-2 at the Gilbert Duals on Jan. 12.
Plainville defeated Southwick, Mass., 58-21, and St. Paul 64-18 at the Gilbert Duals. The Devils lost 48-30 to Griswold and 43-24 to Gilbert.
In the loss to Bristol Central, Dom Pedrolini, Alex Hernandez, Kaleb Korona, and Travis Boone won bouts for Plainville. Pedrolini won a 2-0 decision over Adam Ward at 126 pounds, Hernandez pinned Andrew Beaucar in 3:03 at 152, Korona pinned Jacob Boucher in 48 seconds at 182, and Boone pinned Alexander Roy in 29 seconds at 220.
Plainville had a dual meet at Platt on Wednesday. The Devils travel to the New Milford Invitational on Saturday.
Wethersfield-Middletown-Rocky Hill-Plainville went 1-1 last week, bouncing back from a 5-0 loss to the Farmington Valley Generals with a 4-1 win over the Northeastern Shamrocks.
The Wethersfield co-op was tripped up by Farmington Valley at the Newington Ice Arena on Jan. 9. In the win over Northeastern on Jan. 12, Ben Mroczka had two goals while Connor Rancourt and Andrew Cascio added a goal apiece. The co-op defeated the Shamrocks in a game played at the Bolton Ice Palace.
Wethersfield faced Hall-Southington on Wednesday night at Veteran’s Memorial Ice Rink in West Harford. The co-op hosts E.O. Smith on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. at the Newington Ice Arena.
John Siani finished 12th in the 300m dash and 13th in the 600m at the Shoreline Coaches Invitational on Jan. 12 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
Boys swimming and diving
The Devils are 2-2 on the season with wins over Simsbury and East Catholic. Plainville lost meets against Farmington and Berlin. The Devils hosted Rocky Hill on Tuesday.
