Blue Devils round-up: Golf, tennis, track

Plainville softball ended a tough week with a positive note in a 17-0 mercy-rule victory over Bulkeley on May 10 at Plainville High School.

The Lady Devils had lost their first two games of the week to Platt on May 6 and Middletown on May 8. Plainville improved to 7-8 and was just a win away from clinching a state tournament berth. The Devils hosted Bristol Central on Monday, then hit the road Tuesday and Friday for games against Enfield and Bristol Eastern.

Golf

Plainville started the week with a loss, but closed it with wins over Maloney on May 9 and May 10. The Devils defeated the Spartans 225-247 on May 9 in Meriden, then took them down 219-228 at Hawk’s Landing Country Club in Southington. Plainville improved to 6-4 on the season. The Devils have road matches scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday against Bristol Eastern, Middletown and Bloomfield.

Girls Tennis

Plainville won two of its three matches last week to improve to 4-8 on the season. The Devils defeated Platt 5-2 on May 6 at home, then beat Middletown 5-2 on the road on May 8. Plainville lost a close match, 4-3, to Manchester on the road on May 10. The Devils were scheduled to start the week on the road at Bristol Central on Monday and Bloomfield on Tuesday. Plainville was slated to host Bristol Eastern on Wednesday, followed by a road match at Berlin on Friday at 3:45 p.m.

Boys tennis

Plainville lost a close match, 4-3, at Platt on May 6. The Devils were defeated 5-2 by Middletown on May 8 and 6-1 by Wethersfield on May 9 to fall to 2-10. Plainville was scheduled to host Bristol Central on Monday. The Devils were slated to be at Bristol Eastern on Wednesday, followed by the season finale on Friday at home against Berlin at 3:45 p.m.

Outdoor track and field

The Plainville boys and girls each picked up home wins over Platt on May 7. The boys won 114-36 while the girls took a 105-44 victory. The Devils were scheduled to host Berlin on Tuesday in their regular season finale.
