Plainville native Jaxsen Bailey impressed again on the wrestling mat, this time at the national level in late June.
Bailey reached the podium not once, but twice during the USA Wrestling Kids Greco-Roman and Freestyle national wrestling championship meets in Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.
Bailey, who wrestles for KT Kidz out of Rocky Hill, finished second in the country in the 10U 59-pound weight class during the Greco-Roman competition on June 28. On June 29, he took sixth place in the 10U 59-pound weight class during the Freestyle competition on June 29. Both tournaments were held at the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center Dome.
In the Greco Roman bracket, Bailey advanced to the final, where he was pinned by national champion Brock Humphrey of West Virginia. Bailey won an 8-7 decision over Maryland’s Wyatt Rossi, then beat Indiana’s Karson Kahatekomo by the same score to reach the final.
After losing in the final, Bailey claimed victory by rule in the second place wrestleback.
In the freestyle bracket, Bailey lost his first bout by technical fall to Kahatekomo. In the wrestlebacks, Bailey had a bye before scoring a 14-4 technical fall over Pennsylvania’s Alan Shimp. Bailey pinned Wisconsin’s Dallas Herdahl in 1:08 in his next bout. Bailey lost by fall to Florida’s Elijah Castanon and Rossi to close out his competition.
